Instruction Sheet Insert College of Education and Human Services Licensure Candidates

  1. Complete the School of Graduate Studies Admissions Application (omit the information required for degree applicants).
  2. If you are completing your first teaching credential you must also apply to the Classroom Teacher Education program in the College of Education and Human Services in addition to applying to the School of Graduate Studies. Please consult the following Web site for Classroom Teacher Education applications and instructions at:
    http://www.ed.wright.edu/ss/
  3. If you intend to enter our graduate level, initial teacher preparation program in the future, and need to take prerequisite content coursework, please mark the licensure candidate category found on the Graduate Studies application. This applies to those seeking initial licensure in Adolescent Young Adult, Middle Childhood or Multi-Age teaching areas. Once you have obtained a passing Praxis II score in your teaching field(s), you will need to reapply for admission into degree status. This should be accomplished prior to the start of this program (this program begins each summer quarter). Your application requirements for licensure status will include a $25 application fee and official transcripts from all academic institutions that you have attended. You must also meet the published minimum admission requirements for licensure status. In order to be considered for admission as a degree-seeking student, you must meet the published minimum admission requirements for that status.
  4. If you are seeking an additional teaching or administrative credential (this is not your initial license), and you do not desire to pursue a degree in concert with your new teaching or administrative credential, please mark the licensure category found on the Graduate Studies application. You should be aware that if you later decide to enter a degree program, only a maximum of 50 percent of the graduate hours required for the completion of the degree program can consist of applicable graduate hours completed while in the licensure status. For this reason, we advise those that may consider earning a degree in the future (but are not sure) to apply as a degree-seeking candidate and complete the licensure portion of the program first.
  5. If you are pursuing the state of Ohio's Alternative Licensure and/or Conditional teaching permit, please mark the licensure category found on the Graduate Studies application. It is important that you note "Alternative Licensure" in the Selected Program section (item 3) of the application.
