Risedronate in Patients with Medial Compartment Knee Osteoarthritis in
North America
This is a double-blind trial to
investigate the efficacy of a biphosphonate in knee osteoarthritis. Patients
with knee pain, 40-80 years old and otherwise in good health are entered into
the two-year study. After a telephone interview and a screening visit, the
participants are randomly assigned to one of the three treatment groups or to
the control group. The study procedures include radiographs of the knee, blood
and urine collection and some questionnaires. The participants come back to the
laboratory for follow-up visits every three months.
