The BioMedical Imaging Lab was established in 1986 under the leadership of its current director, Thomas
N. Hangartner, Ph.D. Starting out as a research laboratory with an interest
in the development of new methods designed to non-invasively measure bone density,
the laboratory soon got involved in the clinical application of the newly developed
methods. This has been taking place through laboratory-initiated research projects and
through participation in clinical trials to test new drugs for osteoporosis and related
diseases.
