Leader's Training Course 2012:
The Leader's Training Course is the Army’s 2-year Army ROTC Program entry point. Through the Leader's Training Course, students without the AROTC Basic Course experience can examine the Army without incurring an obligation, and qualify for Advanced Course entry. The Army observes these students and determines their officer potential in a leadership oriented, challenging, and motivating 28 day training program at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

The Wright State University Army ROTC Department hosted its Fall 2011 Commissioning Ceremony November 18th in the Student Union. Over 60 guests, Cadets, Staff, and friends of the program attended to witness and/or participate in the commissioning of 2LT Jonathan Moore, 2LT Ken Gearhart, and 2LT Zach Glidewell. All three "newly minted" 2LT's will be serving the Reserve Component. We are proud of them and wish them the very best in their future military careers.

Saturday, about 1,800 middle school and high school students from 10 states participated in our second Science Olympiad Invitational. As part of the Invitational, the Wright State University Army ROTC program hosted the U.S. Army STEM Experience vehicle. Twenty AROTC cadets helped facilitate and direct the high school students' educational experience of averting a fictional biological and chemical crisis. The U.S. Army STEM vehicle was located at Turning Points Plaza during the competition and relocated to the Wright State University Nutter Center prior to the awards ceremony. About 100 high school students took part in this interactive scenario. A team of U.S. Army soldiers and scientists briefed the students regarding the current situation and showed them how their skills are needed to protect the lives of many thousands of civilians. Students used touch screen computer stations to build and launch science and technology-based solutions to avert the environmental crisis. The STEM Experience increased awareness of opportunities in the fields of leadership and education and showcased science, technology, engineering, and mathematics-related training and careers available to future U.S. Army officers.

Mark your calendars the Wright State Army ROTC is partnering again this SY with the Athletic Department and the university Alumni Association for its 6th annual Military Appreciation Mens Basketball game at the E.J. Nutter Center 10 February 2012. The game is televised on ESPN with a 9:00 PM tip-off. As in past years we will honor Alumni from past WSU classes, conduct a tailgate party, music, games, the Orange County Chopper, raffles, and great interaction with university, alumni, OHANG, and USAREC friends. The game ball will be delivered via rappelling over 60 feet from the Nutter Center ceiling. I hope you can make for another great day of camaraderie supporting the Raiders!

Nearly 60 MS I, MS II, MS III and MS IV Cadets participate in our fall Day of Training (DOT). The Raider Battalion used MS IV Cadets to assist in the planning, coordination & execution of the DOT. The DOT focused on individual training tasks and events as the building blocks for progressively more difficult situations later in the SY. Moreover, the DOT allowed our cadre to modify conditions in order to maximize the training benefit to the Cadets.

This fun & challenging test consists of swimming 10 continuous minutes using one or a combination of four strokes (backstroke, crawl stroke, sidestroke, or breaststroke) with no associated minimum distance followed by a minimum of 10 minutes of rest and concluding with the Cadet treading water for 5 continuous minutes.
