Join Wright State's Make a Difference Day Efforts

Be part of Wright State's effort to make a difference in the Miami Valley! Volunteer for or support one of six WSU Join Hands Miami Valley projects. In collaboration with our community partners, Wright State is sponsoring six Join Hands Miami Valley projects this year.

#1: Homefull Supply Drive

Help our UH 101-03 students support Homefull, an agency serving homeless men, women and children in the Dayton area. Students are collecting items for Start-up Kits given to Homefull clients moving from shelters to permanent housing. Kit items include: toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, soap, razors, all-purpose cleaner, sponges, dish soap, toilet bowl cleaner and brush, wash cloths, paper towels, trash bags, shower curtains, toilet paper, can openers, laundry detergent, and dryer sheets. Bring items to 127B Allyn Hall by Oct. 20. No need to register for this project.

#2: Westwood-Freshman Plunge School Supply Drive

Support Wright State's first-year students in opening a school supply boutique at Westwood PreK-8 School. Look for the dark green Rubber Maid canisters in the Student Union. Needed items include: loose leaf paper, notebooks, graph paper, folders, 3-ring binders, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, rulers, hand sanitizers, erasers, pencil sharpeners, compasses, glue sticks, protractors, planners, scissors, and tissues. #3: Saville Elementary Hygiene Supply Drive

Help Social Work Students collect hygiene supplies for Saville Elementary school in Mad River Township. Items include toothbrushes/toothpaste, 2- in- 1 children's shampoo, brushes/combs and body wash. Make your item donation at Kroger on Dayton-Yellow Springs Road. No need to register for this event. Saturday, Oct. 22, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM, Kroger, Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn.

#4: Westwood Community Pride Day Canvasing

Volunteers will distribute fliers in the Westwood neighborhood to promote the upcoming Westwood Community Pride Clean-up Day. This day is important in getting the neighborhood out to join hands with Wright State University volunteers for the clean-up day on Nov. 5. Saturday, Oct. 22, 9:00 AM-11:00 AM. #5: Westwood Community Pride Clean-up Day

Volunteers will work at Westwood PreK-8 School and at the homes of seniors in a 2 block radius around the school: raking and bagging leaves, picking up trash, weeding and mulching flower beds, preparing the grounds for winter, helping to serve lunch. #6: Sustainability Department Highway Clean-up

Volunteer to help to clean up 1 mile of Wright State's Adopt -a-Highway along 675 close to the N. Fairfield exit. Clean-up will take 2-3 hours with a brief training beforehand. Meet in the Brehm Lab for orientation. Saturday, Nov. 5, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. To register, email
