Community Engagement Reporting

The university is collecting information for Wright State's application to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for 2011. As you are probably aware, WSU has been recognized on the Honor Roll, with Distinction, for both 2009 and 2010. Your assistance is needed to ensure that the university has accurate and complete documentation of all forms of community service in which its faculty, staff and students participate as representatives of Wright State.

All community service and engagement work from July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011, should be reported at Community Engagement Reporting

Deadline for reporting is November 23, 2011.

Having comprehensive information on the university's community engagement efforts has become increasingly important for Wright State. Our accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission, requires that we provide evidence that our programs, resources and efforts are aligned with our mission, which includes engaging in significant community service. In addition, the Carnegie Foundation has established a Community Engagement Elective Classification, for which the university plans to apply at the next opportunity in 2015. There are also many opportunities for national rankings and awards that may enhance the university's ability to attract donors, grants and other funding. Most recently, Wright State was identified as number eight on Washington Monthly's Top 10 list of higher education institutions that give back to their communities.

Types of activities to report include, course-based service-learning, paid or unpaid internships, co-ops, clinicals, practicums, student teaching placements, extracurricular volunteering/community service, community based research, use of professional expertise to benefit the community, etc.

Reports may be submitted by individuals or by faculty, student or staff groups/departments.
