10:45 - 12:15 pm Improving Collaboration between 2-Year and 4-Year Colleges in the Conversion to Semesters
Facilitators: Richard Prystowsky (COTC) and Dan DeStephen (WSU)
Description: The simultaneous conversion to a semester calendar by both 2-year and 4-yaer schools provides an opportunity for 2-year-and 4-year schools not only to improve the coordination of curricula among the schools, but also, and more generally, to strengthen their overall collaborative efforts in the service of helping students succeed. This session will discuss how schools are using the conversion to semesters to improve collaboration among 2-year and 4-year schools. This facilitated session will consider four questions:
- What are the key issues/questions that need to be addressed to improve collaboration among 2-year and 4-year schools?
- What are examples of 'best practice' in 2-year and 4-year collaboration?
- What resources are needed to encourage increased collaboration among 2-year and 4-year schools?
- What should be the follow-up to this session's discussion?

Description: General Education is the foundation upon which all baccalaureate programs are built. This session will discuss how schools are using the transition to semesters as an opportunity to transform General Education. This session will begin with a presentation from Amy Jessen-Marshall on her work on general education reform followed by a presentation by Gisela Escoe and Marianne Lewis from the University of Cincinnati on how UC has restructured their general education program.

3:10 - 4:40 pm Redesigning the Major

Description: Transition to a semester calendar is a unique opportunity for schools to transform their majors to better meet the needs of students. This session will look at how schools are rethinking the major as they design their semester curricula. This facilitated session will consider four questions:
- What are the key issues/questions that need to be addressed in transforming the major to a semester calendar?
- What are examples of redesigned majors under a semester calendar?
- What resources are needed to redesign majors?
- What should be the follow-up to this session's discussion?

10:45 - 11:30 Student Services Common Issues
Facilitators: Doug Burgess (UC) and Allison Rhea (SCC)
Description: This will be a joint session for Registrar, Bursar, and Financial Aid professionals to discuss common issues such as impact of the new calendar on various business processes and cycles as well as policy and procedure ramifications. Following this 45 minute session will be separate breakout sessions for Registrar, Bursar, and Financial Aid to discuss area specific concerns.

Description: Conversion to semesters will impact many functions of the Registrar. Find out in this session how your colleagues are planning to handle such topics as academic history, degree audit, catalogue, schedule of classes, classroom space management, time blocks, calendar, course numbering, and repeat policies, just to name a few. Be sure to bring up your hot topics in what is sure to be a lively discussion.

Description: The goal for this session is to try to identify all the Bursar specific issues that need to be addressed with the conversion to semesters. To that end a spreadsheet with known items such as billing cycles, installment payment plans, flexible rates, and regional campus billing will be provided as a starting point for the discussion with the hope being that additional items and corresponding solutions will be identified to complete the spreadsheet.

Description: Share with your colleagues your approach to meeting the data needs of your institution in planning for the conversion, how programs and processes will change for state reporting and how you'll address comparison and longitudinal reporting in the long-term.

Description: Lessons from the road: How UT used academic advising to ensure smooth transition to semesters. Please join Dr. Andy Jorgensen - a dynamic, seasoned Semester Conversion leader as he provides an overview of his experience during the conversion at the University of Toledo. As the director of the entire project at UT, Dr. Jorgensen will share all aspects of the process and how communication is of paramount importance. Find out why administrators and advisors should understand and engage in the process; and why advisors are key to student success - they are the ones who will work with and communicate to students caught in the transition from quarters to semesters.

Description: This program track explores the fiscal impact of how the conversion from quarters to semesters changes many non-academic units and policies. Participants will hear how their colleagues are dealing with:
- Establishing a budget for the transition and on what activities that budget is based upon;
- The impact on faculty and staff appointments and workloads;
- The impact on the physical plant, parking, food services and the bookstore.

Description: This session will focus on how from quarters to semesters will impact non-academic units. How will revenue for food services, bookstore or parking be impacted? Are you anticipating any cost savings from the transition?
1:30-3 pm The Impact of Semester Conversion on Faculty and Staff Appointments and Workloads
Facilitators: Gary Neiman (Ohio University), Jay Johnson (Ohio State University) and Rudy Fichtenbaum (Wright State University)
Description: The change of calendar will change the length of faculty and staff workload and appointments. Some impacts include but are not limited to academic leave (sabbatical) policies, collective-bargaining agreements, 12-month versus 9-month appointment status. Additionally, how are institutions handling the special transition costs of converting the curriculum and in some cases the General Education Curriculum? Participants in this session will be asked to share what is being done at their institution.

- What are examples of ‘best practices’?
- What should be the follow-up to this session’s discussion?
3:10-4:40 pm Developing the Budget for Semesters Conversion
Facilitator: Keith Ralston and Thomas Sudkamp (Wright State University)
Description: This session explores how your institution will account for the costs associated with the transition between quarters to semesters. If your institution has developed a budget for the transition, on what activities and costs were those estimates based upon? Is your institution setting aside funds for special work? How did you arrive at the amount? Participants in this session will be asked to share what is being done at their institution.
