Wright Across the Curriculum

Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Committee

Charge to Semesters Conversion Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Committee:

Develop an innovative and comprehensive writing across the curriculum program, based on national best practices, that accomplishes the following:

  • Articulates appropriate student learning outcomes for the WAC Program, including meeting the designated learning objectives of the Ohio Transfer Module and of all accredited programs
  • Includes input from disciplinary faculty about appropriate student writing outcomes for the disciplines
  • Recommends graduation requirements for WAC
  • Builds on students' first-year writing experience(s)
  • Integrates seamlessly into the new general education program and the requirements for the baccalaureate degree in general
  • Recommends provisions for oversight and assessment of the WAC program
  • Provides a transition plan for continuing students

In developing the program, the WAC Conversion Committee should provide opportunities for input and feedback from faculty, students, and two-year partner schools concerning the current WAC program and the proposed WAC program of the future.

The recommendations of the WAC Conversion Committee will be reviewed and approved by the Undergraduate Curriculum and Academic Policies Committee (UCAPC) and the Faculty Senate. The Committee should plan to present its recommendations to UCAPC by November 2009. This timeline will permit the University to remain on schedule with its Semesters Transition Milestone Timeline, which calls for the approval of General Education and other campus-wide programs by February 2010.
