ROLE OF COLLEGE COORDINATORS:
The primary roles of the college coordinators are to provide ongoing communication between the Semester Transition Team and the colleges, and to oversee the transition tasks within the respective colleges. Each college coordinator will thus have the responsibility to ensure that the curricular, scheduling, and advising tasks are met for his/her college within the time allotted by the Milestone Timeline for completion of these tasks.
Critical tasks that each college coordinator should initiate immediately include:
- Development of 2009-10, 2010-2011, 2011-2012 Planning Schedules.
Each department should develop class schedules for the preconversion academic years. The schedules should include course offerings for all terms, including summer and Intersession. These planning schedules will be used by academic advisors to help continuing students to map out the most direct and cost effective pathway(s) to completion of the degree before the calendar changes to semesters in Fall 2012, and by the University to ensure that appropriate classrooms will be available each term to accommodate all classes. Additional classes and sections not in the planning schedule may be offered depending upon student demand. The planning schedule for each college is due by June 30, 2009.
- Development of Curricula:
The college coordinator should provide overall leadership and oversight for the timely development, conversion, review, and approval of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum in the respective college, including all majors, minors, and certificate programs, as well as all courses-regular and substitution courses-- offered by the college in the University's General Education and Writing Across the Curriculum Programs. The curricula for all programs should be submitted to the Undergraduate Curriculum and Academic Policies Committee (UCAPC) or the Graduate Policies Committee b March 2010.
As part of the curriculum conversion process, coordinators are also expected to:
- Ensure appropriate collaboration and attention to "service courses" (those courses offered to meet the requirements of another department and/or college, or of the university in general) across departments, programs, and colleges to determine if such courses are still current, are still needed, and will continue to best meet the needs of the requesting program/department/college in the future
- Facilitate timely and appropriate consultation with Wright State University Lake Campus faculty, and-- to ease articulation and transfer--with peer colleges, departments, and programs at two-year partner schools-Sinclair Community College, Clark State Community College and Edison Community College. Collaboration overall and/or by discipline, is also encouraged with those four-year schools-The Ohio State University, Ohio University, and the University of Cincinnati-that are also converting to semesters, effective Fall 2012
- Collaborate in general with the Undergraduate and Graduate Curriculum Conversion Committees of the Semesters Transition Team (SST), meeting as needed with each group to ensure timely and consistent conversion of the curriculum to semesters.
