Wright State University University Technology Committee

UNIVERSITY TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE

MEETING MINUTES

January 22, 2009

Attendees:

Chuck Taylor, Terry Anderson (for Paul Hernandez), Greg Kojola, Stephen Foster, Dan DeStephen, Todd Brittingham, and Carol Holdcraft

The only agenda item discussed at this meeting was the future of the University Technology Committee.  Chuck Taylor reviewed the charge of the committee. The UTC was formed in 1996 to review and coordinate all plans for the use of technology within the University.  Its members included the chair of each college technology committee who is appointed by the Dean and appointees of the three vice-presidents as well as representatives from University Libraries, Computing and Telecommunications Services, Center for Teaching & Learning, and Disability Services.  The initial need for UTC was an important step in assisting faculty and staff with information and education regarding technology.  However, over time, multiple technology committees have been formed across campus and have been able to meet the varied technology requirements. The original need for a centralized committee has ended.  UTC no longer “reviews and coordinates” or “makes recommendations to the Provost”.

A concern was mentioned during this meeting - How will information on new technology be distributed in the future if UTC is disbanded?  CTL and CaTS have improved communication efforts and developed educational workshops for faculty.

The consensus of the attending members was to disband the University Technology Committee as it is today.  The Provost may wish to define a new mission statement for University technology needs and request the formation of a new committee.

The members will be notified when a decision is made by the Provost.
