Approval of Minutes

Minutes of the December meeting were approved as written.

Provost's Faculty Computer Initiative

Paul Hernandez distributed the 2005 Faculty Computer Initiative Fund Allocation by college. The Provost added an additional $30,000 to the funds distributed in previous years. The money will be distributed in the near future. Any serviceable computers that still meet the minimum University standards left after the "trickle down" effort should be sent to ESPM at which time CaTS will purchase these machines. The machines will then have new hard drives and memory installed and be redistributed on campus.

OhioLink Update

Stephen Foster distributed copies of a memo sent to Deans, Department Chairs, and Library Representatives regarding Electronic Journal cuts. A copy of a message going out to all faculty was also distributed. This document, which can be accessed at: http://www.ohiolink.edu/supportohiolink/, is an effort being made by OhioLINK and library directors to increase awareness of these budget cuts and to encourage support for budget relief.

Announcements

Jeff Vernooy discussed the "Lift Text Transcoder" system which allows users with disabilities to access University webpages. Sean Kleefeld and Jeff requested the committee's approval to move forward with this project. Paul Hernandez will get information on the number of servers involved, the cost of the system, and how the purchase will be funded.

Provost Hopkins reported that House Bill funds have not yet been announced. More information should be forthcoming within the next few weeks.

Dave Sauter announced the third round of classrooms scheduled to be converted to electronic classrooms is still open for discussion and consideration. If anyone has any suggestions or comments, please e-mail Dave at dave.sauter@wright.edu.

The next scheduled UTC meeting will be on Thursday, February 10, 2005 from 3:00-4:00 pm in 315 Library.
