II. ERP Update - Paul Hernandez

A contract was signed with SCT Banner for the ERP project. The university received a discount of $1.1 million by completing the contract before the deadline. The portal, which is the first phase of the project, is scheduled for implementation by March, 2004. This will include new email and calendaring systems. A Portal Advisory Committee (PAC) will consist of approximately 20 members including faculty, staff, and students. Scott Rife (CaTS) will chair the committee and Carol Holdcraft volunteered to be the UTC representative. The primary responsibilities of this committee will be to gain understanding of the portal and how it will be utilized, recommend policies for services and content, help set priorities for portal services, resolve layout issues, and oversee communication and training. It is recommended that PAC should be a sub-committee of UTC and report on a regular basis to the UTC members. All policies and recommendations approved by UTC will then be reviewed for approval by the Provost and the Executive Steering Committee. This motion was voted and unanimously approved by all attending members.

A Web site, http://www.wright.edu/usr/, has been developed to inform the university community of all ongoing projects with regard to the ERP and will periodically updated as information is available. The current issue of Quickbits will also have information on the project.

III. CTL Updates - Terri Klaus

  1. Terri distributed the latest statistics on fall quarter distance learning courses.
  2. The redesigned Web site for prospective distance learning students is available at http://www.wright.edu/dl. Any comments should be sent to Terri at terri.klaus@wright.edu.
  3. CTL will begin emailing the distance learning information to all students via the official WSU student listserv.
  4. CTL is in the process of developing a handbook for faculty teaching online courses.

IV. RefWorks Update - Stephen Foster

The RefWorks product was presented to the English department as suggested at the last UTC meeting. The Provost suggested presentations also be made to the Deans, Graduated Studies, and the Coordinator of Writing Across the Curriculum. He noted that if the product is approved by the reviewers, funding would be made available. The members agreed to move forward with this project.

V. University Technology Plan 2004-2009 - Provost Hopkins
Due to the completion of the newest University Strategic Plan, the Provost charged the committee to begin updating the current University Technology Plan for 2004-2009. Each college should have a revised plan completed and ready for presentation to UTC by March 1, 2004. Then by June 1, 2004 the first draft of the technology plan should be ready for review.

VI. Faculty Computer Initiative 2004 - Provost Hopkins

The Provost announced his financial support again this year for the Faculty Computer Initiative. He suggest a review of the guidelines used in the decision-making process before the colleges begin to inventory their computer needs. It was decided a sub-committee to include a representative of each college and a representative from CaTS be formed to review these guidelines. Jim Vance will be the Chair of this committee. The first meeting of this sub-committee has been scheduled for Thursday, October 30.
