MEETING MINUTES

August 14 , 2003

I. Approval of Minutes for June

The minutes were approved.

II. Opening Remarks by Provost Hopkins

Chuck Taylor opened the meeting by welcoming the University's new Provost, Dr. Dave Hopkins, as the new Co-Chair of the committee. Dr. Hopkins charged the committee with reviewing and coordinating plans regarding technology on campus. The following are items to be addressed during the next year:

A. The committee was asked to review UTC's contributions to the three strategic goals of the current University Strategic Plan as well as future involvement in technology advancement on campus.

B. Dr. Hopkins requested a review of the current strategy for increasing funds for technology.

C. The current 1998-2003 Technology Plan should be updated this year.

D. Need to review and re-evaluate the current distance learning plan.

III. CaTS Updates
A. Terry Anderson updated the committee on the current ERP project. The teams are in the process of completing the review process. and will submit an RFP by August 22. Responses from vendors must be received by September 5 with a recommendation by the Executive Steering Committee to be submitted by September 25. The two primary vendors, Peoplesoft and SCT Corp., will be on campus for scripted demonstrations the week of September 8 and September 15. Further information on this project will be forthcoming.

B. Larry Fox updated the committee on the 2003 TURNPIKE Upgrade Status.

C. The members of the UTC approved the recommendation made by CaTS subject to the request by Jim Vance for assurance that the automatic updates would not affect any research data projects.

IV. University Libraries Update

Stephen Foster requested the presentation of the new University Library Web site be postponed until the September meeting.

V. CTL Updates

A. Dan DeStephen distributed copies of the House Bill and GE Classroom Installation Schedule with regard to upgrades of or conversion to electronic classrooms.

B. Dan also distributed copies of distance learning and Web-enhanced class statistics through Spring 2003. There will be an upgrade to WebCT Version 4.0 on August 29 and access to WebCT will not be available until approximately 10:00a.m. that day.

C. CTL will again be offering the Online Teaching and Learning Course for faculty. The Orientation Luncheon is Thursday, September 18 and the classes begin September 23. For more information, contact Chris Roberts at extension 3943 or see http://www.wright.edu/ctl/otl.
