I. Approval of Minutes of Latest Meeting
The minutes of the November 8, 2001 meeting were approved.
II. Demonstration of "Remote Access"-CaTS
Chris Fickert, Dave Stuart, and John Gabriel (CaTS) gave a brief
demonstration of Remote Access of client workstations. This will provide a
method of workstation troubleshooting without and on-site visit by a technician.
By eliminating travel time between problem calls, Remote Access will allow
technicians to respond more quickly to problems and resolve more problems daily.
In addition, technicians will be able to guide clients through simple
procedures, with the goal of training clients in the resolution of common minor
problems.
Privacy issues in this matter are of the utmost concern. For this reason, only a
select group of technicians will have access to this facility. Authentication of
these technicians will be handled via Novell. Before any technician can remotely
access a workstation, the current client of that workstation must grant
permission. The client will always be aware of the remote access due to the
presence of a remote access toolbar which is always visible during the process.
Finally, a client can terminate remote access at any time by closing the remote
access toolbar. This service will become available by the end of February and
will also be used at Lake Campus.
III. Data Protection Guidelines & Policy - CaTS
Larry Fox (CaTS) distributed drafts of the "Data Protection
Guidelines" and "Data Protection Policy". The policy will be
implemented in order to educate users on ways to protect data, user responsibilities
and Wright State University's responsibilities. This information will become
part of the Wright Way Policies and Procedures when completed and approved. It
was suggested that examples of protected and sensitive data be added to this
document. Any other comments or suggestions should be directed to Larry Fox at larry.fox@wright.edu.
A final draft will be presented at the next UTC meeting.
IV. Provost's Faculty Computer Initiative - CaTS

approved machine, as well as funds needed to purchase memory for those machines
identified as needing memory upgrades. CaTS will begin ordering equipment in
February.
