Jeff Bowman, CaTS
Bonnie Hupman, Printing Services
Tamara Jones, Human Resources
Cheryl Lauricella, University Libraries
Michelle Martin, Affirmative Action
Jill Oroszi, Nursing

Rick Zech, Athletic Council, Wellness and Recreation

The final meeting of the Athletic Council for this academic year was held May 31st. All subcommittees reported to the Council with their year-end reports.  Interested persons can call or email Rick with a request to see the full reports.

Basketball and Soccer schedules were set for the next year.  Academic Affairs expressed concern that the schedules will conflict with the student-athletes' classes.  For example, women's basketball players will miss 14 days of class during the academic year.    The Athletic Council has recommended to expand the Learning Resource Center to the adjoining office space in Rike Hall when the Women's Center moves to Millett Hall in the fall quarter.

The annual Retirees' Picnic will be held Tuesday, June 25th from 11:00 to 1:30 in the Garden of the Senses.  The rain date is the following day.

Jill Oroszi, Buildings and Grounds

The Millett renovation is on schedule with plans to move into the building in mid-July.  Classes will be scheduled there during fall quarter.  Tours are now available.  Contact Donna Curtin for more information  A scale replica reconstruction of the bell tower will be funded by the Alumni Association.  It cannot include genuine, ringing bells, as the structure will not support the weight.  For additional information about these and other summer construction projects, see the Facilities Planning and Management page.

Bonnie Hupman, Calendars and Elections

The Calendars and Elections committee will not have unclassified or classified representation next year.  The AAUP has a tentative agreement that fall finals will be completed before Thanksgiving in 2003.

Michelle Martin, Parking Services
No report from the Parking Services Committee, but the Parking Appeals Committee has been receiving a large number of appeals.  Most appeals center around tickets for parking in non-designated areas of lots #7, #1 and near the Creative Arts Center.  The next Parking Services meeting will discuss this problem.

Carol Vuckovich, University Dining Services

Plans for the opening of the Student Union Marketplace in the fall are on schedule.  Dining Services will offer discount initiatives to faculty and staff this fall to encourage use of Wright One cards for purchases.  For additional information about summer hours and changes, visit the Dining Services web page.

New USAC Members
Tom Brookey reported the election of new council members:  Sharon Powell, Kathi Herick, Donna Totten, Dan Andrews, and Michelle Feichtner.  For contact information see the USAC members page.  Tom also expressed thanks to outgoing council members Jane Baker, Jean Denney and Joy Heishman.

Changes in Appraisal System
Tom sits on a committee reviewing the performance appraisal process.  Concern has been expressed that submissions of performance appraisals have declined.  The Provost will fund a consultant to recommend a new system.  The committee has requested bids from prospective consultants.  The committee is leaning in favor of a system that would abolish performance ratings in favor of a development tool.  The value of merit pay is also under discussion.  To give input to the committee, contact Tom Brookey, Jill Oroszi or Doug DeFrain.

Health Care Changes
Informative packets have been sent to all staff about the change from United Health Care to Anthem Blue Cross.  Note that enrollment forms must be returned by this Friday, June 14th to receive Anthem cards by July 1st.  A few packets were distributed without the form but they are available via the web link below.  Human Resources recommends refilling current prescriptions before June 31st if possible.  See the Human Resources site for additional information:

Tom Brookey expressed appreciation for the good attendance by USAC council members this year.  He also expressed appreciation for the feedback and input from other unclassified staff.

Unclassified staff representation on university committees will be reduced in 2002 - 2003.  Unclassified Staff will no longer be represented on the following committees:  Building and Grounds, Calendars and Elections, and University Budget Review.   Representation on the Athletic Council, Parking Services, Dining Services and Wellness and Recreation will continue.

Rick Zech's two year appointment to the Athletic Council and Wellness and Recreation will continue.  Tom will call for volunteers to run for election as the second representative to the Athletic Council in a forthcoming email message.  Michelle Martin will continue on the Parking Services Committee for a second year.  Carol Vuckovich will continue on Dining Services.
