The meeting was held in room 158 University Hall. USAC Chair, Tom Brookey called the meeting to order at 2:30 pm. Attendees were: Tom Brookey, Raj Soin College of Business COMMITTEE REPORTS Rick Zech, Athletic Council, Wellness and Recreation The final meeting of the Athletic Council for this academic year was held May 31st. All subcommittees reported to the Council with their year-end reports. Interested persons can call or email Rick with a request to see the full reports. Basketball and Soccer schedules were set for the next year. Academic Affairs expressed concern that the schedules will conflict with the student-athletes' classes. For example, women's basketball players will miss 14 days of class during the academic year. The Athletic Council has recommended to expand the Learning Resource Center to the adjoining office space in Rike Hall when the Women's Center moves to Millett Hall in the fall quarter. The annual Retirees' Picnic will be held Tuesday, June 25th from 11:00 to 1:30 in the Garden of the Senses. The rain date is the following day. Jill Oroszi, Buildings and Grounds The Millett renovation is on schedule with plans to move into the building in mid-July. Classes will be scheduled there during fall quarter. Tours are now available. Contact Donna Curtin for more information A scale replica reconstruction of the bell tower will be funded by the Alumni Association. It cannot include genuine, ringing bells, as the structure will not support the weight. Bonnie Hupman, Calendars and Elections The Calendars and Elections committee will not have unclassified or classified representation next year. The AAUP has a tentative agreement that fall finals will be completed before Thanksgiving in 2003. Michelle
Martin, Parking Services Carol Vuckovich, University Dining Services Plans for the opening of the Student Union Marketplace in the fall are on schedule. Dining Services will offer discount initiatives to faculty and staff this fall to encourage use of Wright One cards for purchases. NEW BUSINESS New USAC Members Changes in Appraisal System Health Care Changes Human Resources is also offering informational
sessions about the new healthcare plan in Student Union Room 163 as
follows: CHAIR’S REPORT Tom Brookey expressed appreciation for the good attendance by USAC council members this year. He also expressed appreciation for the feedback and input from other unclassified staff. Unclassified staff representation on university committees will be reduced in 2002 - 2003. Unclassified Staff will no longer be represented on the following committees: Building and Grounds, Calendars and Elections, and University Budget Review. Representation on the Athletic Council, Parking Services, Dining Services and Wellness and Recreation will continue. Rick Zech's two year appointment to the Athletic Council and Wellness and Recreation will continue. Tom will call for volunteers to run for election as the second representative to the Athletic Council in a forthcoming email message. Michelle Martin will continue on the Parking Services Committee for a second year. Carol Vuckovich will continue on Dining Services. Cheryl Lauricella has agreed to serve as Chair-Elect for USAC next year. Carol Vuckovich will serve as Chair. NEXT MEETING Minutes submitted by Susan Wehmeyer, USAC Secretary, 6/11/02.
