CSAC COMMITTEES FOR 2002-2003 - Strong committees are vital to a successful year. The committees' responsibilities are outlined in Article VI, Section 1: of the CSAC Bylaws. This year's committee chairs are: Wage & Benefits - Daisy Steiger; Bylaws - Bill Mills; Communications - Linda Dunbar; Policy & Procedures - Ileene Archer; and Campus Environment - Donna Curtin. Doug will give an update on the consulting firm that was recently hired to review and make recommendations for all classified staff job descriptions and compensation. Please plan to attend - this informative session.

FALL FEST - This year, Fall fest will be held Friday, September 20th on the Quad. Make sure you stop by the CSAC table and meet your fellow CSAC'ers. As in the past, we will be selling coverlets. These lovely Hunter Green and Cream updated coverlets come with a brochure giving a brief history of the WSU buildings and landmarks shown on it. In addition to the WSU Coverlets, we are also selling two styles of colorful OHIO Bicentennial coverlets. All coverlets sell for $50.00. Payment can be made by: Cash, Check, Money Order, MasterCard, Visa or with a Departmental 1100 form. All of the proceeds will benefit the CSAC scholarship fund. We hope to see you there!

ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY - Our holiday party the last several years has been a huge success, so we are once again gearing up for a continuation. This year it will be held in the Formal Lounge in early December. Last year we collected nearly $1000 in the 50/50 raffle. One-half of the money collected was given to our charity of choice, The Family Violence Prevention Center of Green County, and the other half was awarded to the lucky winner of the drawing, Vicky Hilderbrand, General Accounting. Let's see if we can break the $1000 mark this year. A flier with complete details will be sent, closer to the event.

PRESIDENT'S AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE - On Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at
2:00 p.m. in the Student Union Multipurpose room, we will celebrate the President's Awards for Excellence. Please join us as we honor the following recipients:

Service: Tom Brookey (UNCL) and Joanie Gahris (CLAS)
Human Relations: Mai Nguyen (UNCL) and Charles Beckley (CLAS)
Innovation: John Bales (UNCL) and Renee Harber (CLAS)
Outstanding Unit: Educational Leadership
Collaborative Units: First Year Coordinating & Advisory Council (FYCAC) program with Div of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs & Enrollment Services

ALUMNI TOWER - A scaled replica of the original campus Bell Tower formerly located at Colonel Glenn and University Boulevard is now located on the "Circle" between the Student Union and the Medical Sciences complex. The project is being funded by contributions from WSU Alumni.

SHORT TERM DISABILITY - The Classified Staff Advisory Council will continue to investigate the feasibility of an option to purchase short-term disability (STD) insurance. The University now provides Long Term Disability insurance that begins six months after injury or illness. Presently, the six-month lapse in salary is filled by using accrued sick and/or vacation leave, which may fall short of what is needed. The university currently provides full-time classified employees with 15 days (120 hours) of sick leave annually. There is no maximum amount of sick leave that an employee can accrue. The Wages & Benefits Committee will be paying special attention to this need this year, and will be sending another interest survey to all classified staff members before the first of the year.
