August 28, 2020 - From the President's Desk

Dear Campus Community,

Today marks both the 57th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech and the 65th anniversary of the death of Emmet Till.

We wonder what Dr. King would think of us now, 57 years later, as our country continues to be impacted by racial violence, most recently in Kenosha, Wisconsin, resulting in the shooting of Jacob Blake. We would like to remind you all that it is our responsibility to stand together as a community against all forms of racial violence and intolerance. It is our role to promote equity, inclusion, and social justice.

The events in Kenosha are emotionally devastating and once again remind us that the journey to justice and equality is long and arduous.

We want to remind our campus community of resources that are available to assist you. We encourage anyone who needs it to reach out to these campus resources to provide you with support, compassion, and understanding.

Diversity is one of our greatest strengths. Our diversity of thought, culture, background, and experiences fuel our community’s ability to thrive in uncertain times, consider thought-provoking opinions without incident, and nurture one another when confronted by great challenges.

We will never fail when we face our challenges together. We stand together.

Hate and racism have absolutely no place at Wright State.
