Celebrating 50 Years

Stories

A Collection of Stories from the Wright State Community

In 2017, we asked the Wright State family—faculty, staff, students, and alumni—to tell us a personal story about their experience here, a story that reflects both the university's unique culture and its influence on their lives. Please enjoy those stories that helped us celebrate Wright State’s first 50 years of transforming the lives of our students and the communities we serve.

Nan-c Moss

Alumna, Staff

Many of my life’s experiences are bound to Wright State. As a student, I developed lifelong friendships. As an alumna, I’ve networked with others who share my passion for public service. As an employee, I get to engage with people who liberally invest time, talent, and treasure in our students.

Bruce Cromer

A union stage actor, I’ve been in over 160 professional theatre productions since graduation. I met my wife at Wright State; we now have three grown sons from a 35-year marriage. A Wright State theatre professor since 1987, I continue to act in leading roles across the country.

I am from a country called the Indian sub-continent. I came to the land of opportunity, with lots of dreams. Wright State welcomed me to the family with open arms. This place got me involved by inspiring me and helping me follow my passion. Thank you all for the experience.

I joined WSU in 2005 and graduated in 2012 Ph. D. in Electrical Engineering. I loved my stay at WSU, it is one of the the best days of my USA life. I developed immensely as a researcher and a professional equipped to tackle the present day engineering challenges.

Far away from a distance land in the eastern hemisphere, I decided to take my first flight to the birth place of aviation to the university named after the brothers who gave the world a taste of flying. Today, this place has given me the wings of courage to fly

My story is dependent upon the story of others. To the professor who showed me the value of my education; the community director who exposed me to a life of purpose, the numerous leaders who contributed to my growth, and the students who trusted me to lead: thank you.

David Kendrick

Staff & Student

I joined the FMS Department at WSU in the spring of 1995 and started classes in the fall. This chapter of my educational journey will end in December 2017 with graduation. It never would have been possible without the wonderful support of my supervisors, colleagues and the entire WSU community.

Cristie Gryszka

Staff

Every day I am inspired by the generosity of alumni, staff, retirees, faculty, community members and organizations that believe in WSU’s mission and our students. WSU has given me the opportunity to be a part of something that will continue to change the future of our region!

Debbie Garber

Alumni & Staff

2004 I became a Raider working for The College of Science and Mathematics. Mother of three, working full-time and caring for elderly parents, I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology. This is not an uncommon scenario, however my supportive work environment made all the difference. Proof WSU values education.
