WSU Terahertz and Ultrafast Photonics
Research Group -- Dr. Jason Deibel

Dr. Jason A. Deibel

Assistant Professor, Department of Physics

Wright State University

Dayton, OH

Dr. Jason Deibel joined the faculty of Wright State University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics in August 2007.
He received his B.A. in Physics and Mathematics, with a minor in History, from Transylvania University in 1997. Dr. Deibel
completed his Ph.D. in Applied Physics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2004.

He conducted his thesis research at the Center for Ultrafast Optical Science in the research group of Dr. John F. Whitaker. His thesis
research
studied the use of nonlinear polymers for use in ultrafast electro-optic sampling measurements. Following the defense of his thesis,
Dr. Deibel joined the research group of Dr. Daniel Mittleman in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University
in Houston, Texas. During this time, he was an Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Fellow. While at Rice, Dr. Deibel conducted research
in terahertz spectroscopy and imaging with a focus on terahertz spectroscopy of magnetic semiconductors, the development of terahertz
antennas and waveguides, and the use of the finite element method to simulate terahertz wave and plasmonic phenomena. From August
through October of 2006, Dr. Deibel was a Royal Society Visiting Fellow at the University of Leeds, UK where he conducted research in
the laboratory of Dr. Giles Davies and Dr. Edmund Linfield.

Dr. Deibel is a member of the Optical Society of America, the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, the American Physical Society,
and Sigma Pi Sigma. Dr. Deibel is also affiliated with the newly founded Institute for the Development and Commercialization of Sensor
Technology
, funded by the state of Ohio's Third Frontier Program and to be housed in the new Collaborative Research Center in Tech Town
in downtown Dayton. Dr. Deibel also serves as the faculty advisor for the WSU Chapter of the Society of Physics Students.

Dr. Deibel grew up in Crestwood and Pewee Valley, Kentucky where he attended South Oldham High School. He now lives in the city of Oakwood,
Ohio with his wife Jen. When he is not exploring the world of terahertz and optical physics, Dr. Deibel enjoys running, bike riding, canoe paddling,
watching movies, and volunteering.
