Professor of Management
Office: 206 A Rike Hall
Phone: 937-775-2468
Dr.
Wendt obtained her M.S. in Human Resources and her Ph.D. in Business
Administration, with major fields in Labor/Employment Law and Labor Relations,
from University of Utah, College of Business. The opportunity to integrate
her professional work experience with academic theories and principles to
prepare students for challenging and meaningful careers was her primary reason
for pursuing an academic career. She believes teaching is the most
important and rewarding part of her job.
Another significant element of academia is scholarship. Dr. Slonaker and
Dr. Wendt created The Ohio Employment Discrimination Studies, a unique,
on-going longitudinal database (1985-current). The majority of their
research flows from the database, which contains over 9,500 employment
discrimination claims, drawn from the files of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission.
This is a rich source of data that provides employers, employees, the public,
lawyers, legislative policy-makers, and regulators new insight and perspectives
concerning employment discrimination. It has yielded many published
articles and attracted the attention of the national mass media.
Dr.
Wendt serves on various committees in the
Department of Management,
Raj Soin College of
Business, and the
University.
She is responsible for the development of the
Annual Best Practices in Diversity Forum.
This event provides HR Professionals, Managers, and Executives a unique
opportunity to enhance diversity in their organizations.
Dr. Wendt coordinates the Annual
Ohio Civil Rights Commission hearings on Wright
State’s campus. These hearings provide a unique opportunity for the public to see
the Ohio Civil Rights Commission at work.
Her external service includes Labor Arbitration for collective bargaining grievance disputes for public, private, and non-profit sector organizations. She also is a Fact-finder and a Conciliator for the State Employment Relations Board. These cases involve negotiation disputes between state and local government employers in the state of Ohio and the labor organizations that represent their respective employees.
